Introduction to Workflow Nodes

Introduction

Feature(s)

There are five different nodes with different features in workflows, namely, the start node, the end node, the approval node, the CC node, and the child workflow node.

The default nodes are the start and end nodes, which must be set and cannot be deleted.

Application Scenario(s)

  • Start node: the node where a workflow starts.
  • End node: the node where a workflow comes to an end.
  • Approval node: the node where a workflow is reviewed. You can add multiple approval nodes and use connection lines to connect them.
  • CC node: the node where updates of a workflow are cc'd to corresponding members. After a workflow has been reviewed at a node, the result can be cc'd to members who need to know the workflow's progress.
  • Child workflow node: the node where the workflow in another workflow form can be circulated as a child workflow. After the child workflow is finished, the current workflow will continue.

Start Node

Rename the start node and set field permissions. There is no need to set an approver for this node because the initiator is the handler.

In Advanced, you can set Node Actions and Data to Be Submitted. The start node supports node actions, including Submit, Save Draft, Stash, Submit&Print, and End.

End Node

The end node represents where data are completed and exits the workflow, so there is no need to set node properties for it.

Rules:

  • All nodes can be connected to the end node where data exit the workflow.
  • All final nodes of workflow branches must be connected to the end node to finish the workflow branches.

  • The end node is only an exit, and is not used to determine whether a workflow has ended. To know whether a workflow ends or not, you need to check whether there are in-progress nodes in the workflow or not.

Approval Node

Just like the start node, the node name and field permissions be set at an approval node. The difference between them is that you can select an approver and set Enable CC for the approval node.

In Advanced, you can set many other features. For details, see Node Properties.

CC Node

After a workflow is reviewed at a node, the result can be cc'd to the member selected under CC Member. You can set the following properties: Node Name, CC Member, Print, and Field Permissions.

Child Workflow Node

A child workflow node is a node that has correlated with the workflow in another form.

If the business workflow is very complicated, divide the whole workflow into a parent workflow and one or more child workflows. When part of the parent workflow is finished, the child workflow begins. After the child workflow is finished, the parent workflow will continue.
