Checking Automations Failed Reasons

Introduction

When an automation is not triggered, there will be no record or action in the trigger history. You can check the trigger settings through methods in this chapter and find reasons for failure.

Importing Data

Reason

When the trigger is set as Create Record, submitting data manually is to create record, but importing data is not, then imported data will not trigger the automation.

Solution

To trigger automations, you need to submit created data manually and cannot import it.

Updating Record as Initial Value

Reason

When the trigger is set to Update Record, if the updated data is still the initial value, the action is invalid and will not trigger an automation.

For example, if the initial value in the Product Name field is “ipad Pro”, the field value is still “ipad Pro” after editing the data, this action is invalid and will not trigger an automation.

Solution

To trigger automations, fields need to be updated when updating records.

Deleting Subform Record

Reason

When the trigger is set to Delete Record, only deleting subform record is to update record and will not trigger an automation, but deleting the whole record will.

Solution

To trigger automations by deleting subform record, you can set the trigger to Update Record.

Setting Multiple Conditions

Reason

When you set multiple trigger conditions, the logical relationship between them is “and”. If all the conditions are not met at the same time, the automation will not be triggered.

Note: When there is only one trigger condition, as long as the data meets the condition, the automation will be triggered.

Solution

Check whether the relationship between multiple conditions is met.

Approval Node

Reason

When the triggering form is a workflow form with approval nodes, if the trigger condition is set: Workflow Status equals Completed, you will not trigger an automation when setting the trigger to Create Record.

Solution

Workflow nodes change in Update Record. To trigger an automation when Workflow Status equals Completed, you need to set the trigger to Update Record.

Note:

When the trigger is set to Update Record, multiple actions can trigger automations, such as updating submitted data, approval node submission, transferring to Approver, workflow return, and updating workflow status.

No Approval Node

Reason

When the triggering form is a workflow form without approval nodes, that is, the workflow only has the Start and the End nodes, if the trigger condition is set: Workflow Status equals Completed, you will not trigger automations when setting the trigger to Update Record.

Solution

That a workflow transfers to the End node directly after being initiated is to create record. To trigger an automation when Workflow Status equals Completed, you need to set the trigger to Create Record.
