Troubleshooting Required Field Validation in Subforms

You can set Required validation for an entire subform or individual subfields. The validation rules vary depending on where Required is enabled.

1. Required Validation for the Entire Subform

Select the entire subform, go to Field Properties > Validation, and tick Required.

When Required is enabled for the entire subform, members must fill in at least one subfield in the subform before submitting the form. Otherwise, the form cannot be submitted.

2. Required Validation for Individual Subfields

Select a subfield, go to Field Properties > Validation, and tick Required.

A required subfield must be filled in for each row that contains data in other visible subfields.

Note: If all other visible subfields in a row are empty, Required validation will not be triggered for that row.

Example

Suppose a subform contains the following subfields:

Subfield

Field Type

Settings

Single Line

Single Line

Required

Number

Number

Initial Value: 1

Case 1: The Number subfield is invisible

Go to Number > Field Properties > Field Permissions and untick View.

If the second row contains no values in any visible subfields, the form can still be submitted, even though the hidden Number subfield has an initial value of 1.

This is because Required validation for the Single Line subfield is not triggered in that row.

Case 2: The Number subfield is visible

Tick View for the Number subfield.

Since the Number subfield displays the initial value 1 in the second row, the row is considered to contain data.

If the required Single Line subfield is empty, the form cannot be submitted.

Members must fill in the Single Line subfield to pass validation.
