Subform Assignment Rules

When using subforms to assign values, you need to follow many assignment rules. This article takes two forms, Form 1 and Form 2, as examples. Form 1 is the triggering form, and Form 2 is the target form. Meanwhile, a field means the field of a form, and a subfield means the field of a subform.

When the Triggered Action Is to Create Record

1. Fields or individual subforms cannot use fields of multiple subforms to assign values.

If the triggering form contains multiple subforms, you can only use the subfields of one subform to assign values to fields.

If the triggering form contains multiple subforms, you cannot use subfields of multiple subforms to assign values to the subfields in one subform of the target form.

2. Fields and subfields of the target form cannot use subfields to assign values concurrently.

When the target form contains both main fields and subfields, after you assign a value to a main field using the subfield of the trigger form, you cannot use subfields to assign values to any subfields.

Similarly, when you assign a value to any subfield using a subfield, you cannot use subfields to assign values to any fields.

When the Triggered Action Is to Modify Data

1. If you use data in subforms as the filter conditions, you can only use data in one subform.

2. To modify data with fields of a subform using the automation, you need to add its subfield as the filter condition.

3. To modify data in a subform with fields in another subform, you need to assign a value to at least one subfield with another subfield and assign a value to at least one main field with another field.

4. When adding filter conditions, you cannot assign a value to a field with a subfield, assign a value to a subfield with a field, or assign a value to a subfield with a subfield concurrently. Any of these operations can be performed concurrently when you assign a value to a field with a field.

Note:

If the assignment is not performed according to the assignment rules, data that has been assigned may be cleared after the operation.
