Bubble Chart
Introduction
Description
Bubble charts can be used to show the relationship between three variables. Like scatter charts, bubble charts are represented on X-axis (the first variable), Y-axis (the second variable), and the size of the bubble (the third variable).
Application Scenarios
By bubble charts, you can have a clear understanding of the relationship between values of data series, similar to the function of X-axis and Y-axis, which can help you to determine whether there is one kind of association between two variables, or to discover the distribution or aggregation of data.
- Advantages: suitable for dealing with the distribution of values and the clustering of data.
- Disadvantages: not suitable for studying specific values, only for analyzing data distributions.
Requirements
The number of measures and dimensions are:
Dimension | Measure |
≤ Two | Two |

Configuring Settings
Move the mouse to Settings on the right panel for further settings.
1. Set bubbles
The bubble settings consist of two parts, one for the bubble diameter and one for the bubble style.
- Bubble diameter
o The optional fields are related to the measure field type. When the measure is a main field, only the main field can be selected as the diameter.
o When the measure is a sub-field, only the sub-field can be selected as the diameter.
o The default maximum diameter is 60 and the minimum diameter is 12. You can customize other values based on your needs.
- Bubble style
o Set whether to display bubble shadow.
o Set whether to display negative bubble data. Notes:
§ The negative bubble diameter is controlled.
§ If diameter is not set, this setting will not take effect.
2. Set Axis
For X-axis and Y-axis, you can set the title to distinguish the data of X-axis and Y-axis.
3. Data labels and legends
Since the bubble chart is composed of multiple unevenly distributed bubbles, if each bubble has to display data labels, it will show messy data. Therefore, you can cancel the label display under the Data Label and only choose to display the dimension value. If you need to set Legend, you can also set whether to display it and to display the position. As shown in the figure below:
For details, see Settings.
Chart Styles
You can set the visual style of the chart by clicking Style > Chart Color. As shown in the figure below:
